the Top 5 reasons to join a mastermind

Mastermind Groups are one of the most powerful ways to grow your business quickly, with the support of other like-minded business owners, so you never have to go it alone!

The purpose of a Mastermind Group us to promote learning, problem solving and creativity among a small group of business owners in a safe, supportive and constructive environment. It is a small group (8-10 people) of like-minded business owners who meet on a regular basis and serve as an informal “board of directors” for each other.

When you join a Mastermind Group, you get crystal clear on what you want to create in your business and your life; you get into action and are held accountable to make it happen.

The Mastermind concept has been around for a long time. In fact it was invented during the industrial revolution when industry giants like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Henry Ford, J.P. Morgan and others gathered together to build to help each other build their multi-million dollar empires. (Did you know that Oprah Winfrey, Tony Robbins, Sir Richard Branson and many other mega-entrepreneurs still participate in Mastermind Groups today?).

It sounds pretty simple. And yes there is a process to make your Mastermind Group more powerful. The group typically meets every 2-4 weeks, agendas are agreed upon, curriculum is often assigned, members agree to total confidentiality and have a facilitator who keeps the group focused and on time.

So why doesn’t everyone join a Mastermind Group? Well, in my experience as a small business advisor, most of us (especially women) are never exposed to this idea. In fact, a recent NY Times article stated that women often don’t see themselves as entrepreneurs, don’t have the same access to networks as men, and of the 18,000 business owners that participate in groups like this, only 6% are women.

I think it’s time to change that. Here are the top 5 reasons to join a Mastermind:

  1. Accountability – a group to hold you accountable for implementation – making sure you do what you say you’re going to do.
  2. Rapid Growth – being a part of a mastermind group forces you get into action and your business can’t help but grow quickly, adding more clients and revenue in record time.
  3. “Meeting of the Minds” – you’ve heard the expression “two heads are better than one.” A mastermind group is quite literally a meeting of the minds, which generates new and different, out-of-the box ideas.
  4. Expert Guidance – usually a mastermind is facilitated by a business coach or expert, so you get expert guidance and advice on next steps and what to do now to grow.
  5. Community – a supportive community to cheer you on, give a fresh perspective, new ideas, and new connections
