4 Biggest Mistakes Keeping You From Monetizing Your Connections on LinkedIn

I’ve had a LinkedIn account for years, but I never really used it much for building business or finding leads. I spent a lot of time and money on Facebook – creating a business page, trying to get people to like my page or spending money on Facebook ads, all to mediocre results. Why? Now I realize that Facebook is primarily a B2C audience, not B2B like most of my clients.

So I recently decided to spend more of my social networking time on LinkedIn on the advice of a close colleague; and I’ve been kicking myself that I didn’t use LinkedIn very much before now.

You probably experience the same problems most small business owners are having:

  1. Not enough quality leads
  2. Not enough sales appointments
  3. Low or no response email list
  4. Up and down cash flow

If your clients are other businesses (B2B) as mine are, then LinkedIn is a perfect solution for these problems. Why?

  • 41% of Millionaires are on LinkedIn.
  • The average income is of LinkedIn members is $112, 754.
  • LinkedIn gives you direct access to top decision makers and people are on LinkedIn to do business.

So, why do most people fail to monetize their connections on LinkedIn? There are 4 common mistakes…

Mistake #1:

You don’t have a clear, benefit driven offer specific to a particular audience with a clear call to action (ex: visit your webpage, book a strategy session, opt-in for a free e-book, watch your video, etc.).

Mistake #2

You haven’t clearly identified your target market. No, anyone with a checkbook is NOT a good target market.

Mistake #3

Your branding and messaging is ineffective. You are not clear about the deep-rooted benefits of your products or services and you haven’t communicated who you are and what you do to your target market prospects.

Mistake #4

You don’t send a personal message with each connection request. People don’t know who you are and what you offer when you invite them to become a connection on LinkedIn. It’s important to always add a personal note when inviting new connections.

After they accept your connection request, then follow up with another personal message thanking your new contact for connecting. Your messages need to be compelling and engaging. Think about asking, “how can I help you?” or “Can we hop on the phone so I can learn more about what it is that you do?

These are all problems that are easily solved, if you know a little about the “LinkedIn Secret Sauce.”
