Posting to your blog doesn’t mean that you need to spend hours and hours writing content. Blog posts can be as simple as two or three paragraphs. If you have a calendar to look at and you have a plan, then you know what you’re supposed to do each week and that makes it so much easier to write the content.
Here are some really quick ways to write content for your blog:
- Offer a Top Five or Top 10 List. Definitely the easiest way to write blog content is by simply pick a topic, then craft 5-10 points about the topic and then write 2-3 sentences for each point. Then add an introduction and closing paragraph and you have a great article in just a few minutes. (I often use PowerPoint slides to organize my ideas for articles and books. I just think better in PowerPoint!)
- Interview Others. Interview well-known colleagues and industry leaders, or colleagues that offer complimentary services to yours.
- Share Some FAQs. Use your blog articles to answer the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) that you get from clients or prospects. You can make this a regular feature that you write every month.
- Run a Reprint. There’s no shame in posting a popular article more than once (just not too close together).
- Share client success stories, case studies and testimonials.
- Do an “Ask” Column. Every month you can write a post featuring questions sent in by your readers or Facebook fans (for example: “Ask John”).
Other People’s Blogs
Another great thing about blogs is that you can piggy back on other professionals who already have a successful, highly trafficked blog getting by leaving comments on their blog posts. You can find blogs that serve your target market or specific industry. Once you know which blogs your “peeps” are reading and where they are hanging out online, you can subscribe to those blogs (by RSS feed as explained below). Then, as you see fit, you can begin adding comments here and there. Your comment can be very simple, such as “Hey, I found this great link. This might help you.” Be sure to leave “crumbs” in the form of web links (ex: a link to a post on your blog or website).
Commenting on other blogs creates more back links to your website or blog. Back linking is one of the ways that search engines determine rankings. The more quality back links to your site, the higher your search engine rankings will be. Happy blogging!
